Week 11 College Football Power Rankings

Week 11 in college football has come and gone and we are finally getting a clear picture of who should be in the Final Four Playoffs.

The Sports Whisperer’s Top 5 Power Rankings.

#5 Wisconsin Badgers…10-0.

Two weeks ago, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Ohio State 55-24. On Saturday, they lost to Wisconsin 38-14. The Hawkeyes had 66 total yards on offense (25 rushing and 41 passing.) In an era where everything is geared toward the offense, the Badgers defense has been dominating. They have given up 20 or more points only once this season (Sept 30th vs Northwestern, 33-24). I don’t know if Wisconsin is a “Top 4” playoff team but they are clearly the class of the Big 10. They have one more test coming up. They play, 8-2 Michigan next week. The are the most underhyped, underrated, 10-0 team in the history of college football. Being ranked #5 is extremely important, if anyone of the top 4 teams falter, Wisconsin slides into that playoff spot. Their Achilles heal may be their quarterback, Alex Hornibrook has now thrown 11 interceptions in Big 10 play this season

#4) Clemson Tigers…9-1.

The Tigers defeated a terrible, 3-6, Florida State team 31-14.  Clemson was up 17-0 before FSU made it close. It was, 17-14 midway through the fourth quarter before Tigers took over. Quarterback Kelly Bryant appears to be fighting through some injuries he didn’t play great (20-30 for 151 yards passing and 60 yards rushing with 1 touchdown) but, he did enough to help his team win. Clemson appears to play to their competition. They will play #2 Miami in the ACC Championship game DEC 2nd. It is the 5th time in 9 years that head coach Dabo Swinney will take his team to the conference title game.

#3 Miami Hurricanes…10-0.

Yesterday was a fun day living in the Miami area. Everywhere I went I would see University of Miami t-shirts, hats and memorabilia. It really felt like I was living in a college town. The Canes did not disappoint their fans. In front of a raucous home crowd, Miami dominated #3 Notre Dame 41-8. Miami was up 27-0 at halftime and the Fighting Irish had no answers coming out of the locker room. Running back, Travis Homer rushed for 146 yards, and DeeJay Dallas had two touchdown. Miami’s team speed was too much for Notre Dame to handle on both sides of the ball . ND has a few future NFL players on their offensive line and Miami manhandled them. I am not ready to say that “The U” is back to their glory years but Mark Richt has them playing great. He is now 18-4 as Miami’s coach.  They have earned their ranking.

#2 Oklahoma Sooners…9-1.

Two weeks ago, Oklahoma beat #13 Oklahoma State 62-52, On Saturday they beat a very good, #6 TCU team 38-20. Like the Miami vs. Notre Dame game, this was over at halftime. The Sooners were up 38-14 and never looked back. Baker Mayfield threw for 333 yards and had 3 touchdown passes. OU has the best offense I have seen since Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks. As predicted by the Sports Whisperer, Mayfield will win the Heisman and I wouldn’t be surprised if OU wins the National Championship.

#1) Alabama Crimson Tide. 10-1.

Alabama was trailing #16 Mississippi State 21-17 going into the 4th quarter. They outscored the Bulldogs 14-3 in the 4th quarter to win an exciting game 31-24. Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts hit DeVonta Smith for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds left in the game to lead Bama to their 10th win. Nick Saban continues to be the best coach week in and week out in college football. Since 2008, Saban has a record of 122-13. What he is doing will never be duplicated. Below is his record during that time.

2008… 12-2.

2009… 14-0.

Bonus Coverage

Scott Frost and UCF are undefeated at 9-0 and are ranked #14 and #12 in two different polls. They have the number one offense in the country and they are being disrespected. When are the Florida Gators going to hire Frost or Chip Kelly. What are they waiting for?

#1 Georgia got blown out by #10 Auburn 40-17. I have been writing about the Bulldogs all season. They are a good team but not elite, in any way shape or form. They are one dimensional. Coming into this game, they were 2nd in the SEC in rushing but last in passing. Their lack of passing came back to bite them against a very good Auburn team.
