The BIG3 started its previously ten – now eighteen, city tour at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on 2017.

Barclays Center in Brooklyn is a basketball mecca and the BIG3 has deep roots to the site of its inaugural season and their return was highly anticipated on Sunday.

“I feel, we have a great league and we would love a little more support from the sports media, but if we don’t get it…we know that we’ve to earn our stripes and we don’t mind doing that…”, Ice Cube had previously said on an ESPNFirst Take interview with Stephen A. Smith.

So, the BIG3 brought three memorable contests plus Hip Hop legends LL Cool J, Fat Joe, Jadakiss and a special halftime performance to the place where it all began.

The day’s first matchup did not disappoint from the start, league-leading scorer Joe Johnson tallied 17 points and a game-winning 4-point shot – his second game-winning 4-point shot of the season!, to lead the Triplets to victory.

Tri State rode out a two-man game for the majority of the contest, with Amar’e Stoudemire and Jason Richardson, but at the end the Triplets were too much for them, as they continue their undefeated campaign with a 50 – 37 victory.

At this juncture no team in the BIG3 has an answer how to stop “Iso Joe”.

Sunday afternoon’s second game featured a strong showing from former Brooklyn Net Reggie Evans. However, the big man’s 21 points and 13 rebounds weren’t enough to prevent the 3 Headed Monsters from losing back-to-back for their first time in BIG3 history.

Bivouac beat the 3 Headed Monsters 50 – 43, thanks in big part to 13 points and a game-icing 3-point-shot from Will Bynum.

The 3 Headed Monsters’ comeback attempt fell short as their record fell to 2 – 2.

Brooklyn’s final matchup repeatedly brought the Barclays Center crowd to its feet. The final moments featured some exciting back-and-forth play.

Ultimately, a 2-point free throw from the game’s leading scorer David Hawkins gave Trilogy the 50 – 48 victory.

The Killer 3s, coached by the “King of New York” Charles Oakley, will have to regroup.
