5 Things We Learned About Week 12 In The NFL:
5) Derrick Henry doing Derrick Henry Things:
The Tennessee Titans dominated a Jacksonville Jaguars team,42-20. Henry had 19 carries for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. Over the past two games, Henry has 4 touchdowns and 247 rushing yards. Ryan Tannehill has completed 13 and 14 passes over the past two weeks. Patrick Mahomes and Drew Brees complete 27 passes in a half. The Titans are a 1 trick pony, but it works. Feed Henry early and often and he will wear average teams down in the 2nd half.
4) J-E-T-S, Jet, Jets, Jets!!!
Sam Darnold threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Jets upset the Oakland Raiders 34-3. Over his past 4 games, Darnold has thrown for 260,230,293 and 315 yards. The Jets have won 3 straight games for the first time in two years and they scored 30 or more points (three games in a row) for the first time since 2008. I have been writing about this and saying it on The Full Monte Football Show every week since pre-season. This team has too much talent on both sides of the ball to not win 8 or 9 games.
3) Here comes Cleveland:
The Cleveland Browns have won three straight games. Running back, Nick Chub, has 10 consecutive games where he has over 90 yards from scrimmage. The Browns are finally utilizing the run to set up the pass. Over the past 5 games, Jarvis Landry is playing like a pro-bowl wide receiver. Has has 29 catches and 5 touchdown receptions during that time. The Browns play the Steelers, Bengals, Cardinals, Ravens and Bengals. They could “run the table” and win 10 games.
2) Where do the Cowboys go from here?:
The Dallas Cowboys are 6-5 and they have not beaten a team with an above .500 record. On Sunday, Dallas lost to the Patriots, 13-9. The Cowboys had 6 possessions where it was 3rd and less than 3 yards to go, for a first down. They threw the ball all 6 times. The weather was horrible in New England but the Cowboys kept passing the ball. This team has no identity? are they are running or passing team? They have way too much talent to be struggling in the NFC East. Luckily for the Cowboys, this division is historically bad.
Philadelphia Eagles, 5-6.
New York Giants, 2-9.
Washington Redskins, 2-9.
1) What do the Bucs do with Jamies Winston?:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 35-22. Winston was 18-28 for 313 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. There are times when Winston looks like a “world-beater.” But he continues to struggle with consistency and accuracy. He is completing 59.9% of his passes, has 22 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and 8 fumbles. If Tampa Bay doesn’t finish above .500 at the end of the year. I would part ways with the former number 1 draft pick.
Michael Thomas is the best WR in the NFL and it is not even close. The Saints beat a tough Carolina Panthers team, 34-31. Thomas has 8 or more receptions and 100 or more yards in 5 straight games.
San Francisco embarrassed the Green Bay Packers, 37-8. The Ravens dominated the LA Rams, 45-6. My eye test tells me these are the two best teams in the NFL. They are faster on both sides of the ball then any other team in the NFL. We may be seeing a Super Bowl Preview this Sunday when the 49ers travel to Baltimore.
Congrats to the Washington Redskins. They are 2-9, after their upset victory over the 3-7-1 Detroit Lions, 19-16. The pure emotion on the sidelines from quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, was something to watch. Haskins may not be playing well but he truly cares about winning.
Bengals are 0-11 for the first time in their franchise history. They could go 0-16.
Allen Robinson had over 100 receiving yards for the Chicago Bears. It is the first time he has had over 100 yards since Week 1.
New England has won 21 straight home games.
Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) is the first player to have over 3,000 passing yards, and 1,500 rushing yards in his first two seasons.
The Packers are 8-3 and they should finish the season with 12 or more wins. Green Bay plays, the Giants, Redskins, Bears, Vikings and the Lions to close out the year.
The LA Rams will not make the playoffs this season. One could say, starting next year, they are the 4th best team in the NFC West, with the 4th best quarterback.
