NFL Recap: Week 15

We have two weeks left in the NFL regular season.

These are the teams that have already clinched the playoffs:

AFC: Baltimore Ravens (12-2), New England Patriots (11-3), Kanas City Chiefs (10-4), Buffalo Bills (10-4)>

NFC: Green Bay Packers (11-3), New Orleans Saints (11-3), Seattle Seahawks (11-3), San Francisco 49ers (11-3).

5 Things We Learned About Week 15:

5) What do we make of Jimmy Garoppolo?

The 49ers lost at home to the Atlanta Falcons, 29-22. “Jimmy G” threw for 200 yards. San Francisco has been decimated by injuries. This team needed their quarterback to put them on his back and carry them to victory, he did not do that. On the year, he is completing 69%, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and 4 fumbles. He is not an elite quarterback and I wouldn’t trust him in a big spot, come playoff time.

4) Jon Gruden is failing in Oakland:

The Raiders played their last game ever in Oakland on Sunday and lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-16. The Jaguars came into those game losing 5 straight games by 17 or more points. This is a team, in Florida, that quit on their head coach Doug Marone. They had nothing to play for and they managed to beat an Oakland team that had everything to play for. Gruden is in his 2nd season, he signed a 10 year, $100 million contract. I don’t see him lasting 5 seasons with the Raiders. This was a heartbreaking defeat for their fans. Gruden has lost 4 games in a row.

3) The Pack is back:

The Packers defeated the Bears at home, 21-13. Green Bay is winning ugly, but it is always better to win ugly, than lose pretty. The Packers have won 3 games in a row and they can clinch the NFC north with a win next weekend at Minnesota. Matt LaFluer became the first Packers head coach to make the playoffs, his first year.

2) Patrick Mahomes is also back:

The Chiefs offense has kind of been in 2nd gear most of the season. All that changed on Sunday in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes was back to his old self. Mahomes was 27-34, threw for 340 yards and had 2 touchdown passes in the snow. The Chiefs are the wild card in the AFC Conference. They are ranked 27th in rushing yards and are ranked 20th in total defense. As long as they have Mahomes under center, they have a chance to upset anyone in the playoffs.

1) Lamar Jackson is the MVP and best player in the NFL:

The Ravens are 12-2, they are the best team in the NFL and they have the best player in Lamar Jackson. The Ravens quarterback set the record for most yards by a QB on Thursday night. Jackson has rushed for 1,103 yards, he has completed 66% of his passes and has 40 total touchdowns and 6 interceptions. They are the clear cut favorite to get to the Super Bowl.

Bonus Coverage:

Adam Gase, Doug Marone, Freddie Kitchens, Anthony Lynn and Matt Patricia must all be fired at the end of the season. If these coaches aren’t fired, New York, Jacksonville, Cleveland, LA and Detroit should all boycott the games next year.

The Texans beat the Titans, 24-21. This wasn’t a surprise, Houston has won 8 of the past 11 games vs. Tennessee and they are now 5-0 coming off a loss.

The Bills coaching staff deserves all the credit in the world. They clinched a playoff spot without a legitimate number 1 option on offense.

The Cowboys dominated the Rams, 44-21. Dallas is the most inconsistent team in the NFL, that is directly on their coaching staff.

The Los Angeles Chargers had 7 turnovers in their loss to the Minnesota Vikings, 39-10. Phillip Rivers looked old, slow and its time for the Chargers to move away from him. His career is over.

Patriots clinched their 11th straight playoff appearance. Other than the Atlanta Braves in the 1990s, There hasn’t been a team to dominate their division like the Patriots have over the past 20 years, in any sport.

If the Steelers make the playoffs, Mike Tomlin should win Coach of the year.

Drew made NFL history again Monday night. Brees broke Peyton Manning’s career touchdown record with a 5-yard pass to tight end Josh Hill midway through the third quarter against the Indianapolis Colts, giving him 540 for his career.
