NFL Mid-Season Grades: AFC East and West

AFC East:

Buffalo Bills…B-:

The Bills defense has taken a huge step back from last season. They are giving up first downs 50.4% of the time on 3rd down. That is ranked 29th in the NFL. With a running quarterback in Josh Allen, they are 29th in rushing offense.

Miami Dolphins…C+:

The Dolphins will now look to rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to take over the reins for Ryan Fitzpatrick. If Tua plays well the Dolphins could win this division. They have the most upside of any team in the AFC.

New England Patriots…D:

The Patriots have the slowest offensive skill players in the NFL. They have no one on offense that scares opposing defenses. They had 8 starters opt out because of COVID-19. I expected them to win 5-7 games. They will be sellers at the trading deadline.

New York Jets…F:

Giving the Jets an F was too easy of a grade. Is there anything worse than an F? Adam Gase is the most incompetent coach in the NFL. His offense is averaging 12 points a game. The Jets are pathetic, sad, dysfunctional, and embarrassment to the league.

AFC West:

Kansas City Chiefs…A-:

The Chiefs defense is good enough to get sacks and cause turnovers. On offense, this team can beat you with a running attack or their passing game. They should get back to the AFC Championship.

Los Angeles Chargers…B-:

Losing Derwin James to an injury will eventually hurt this team, but the Chargers have talent on both sides of the ball. Like the Dolphins, they have tremendous upside. Why are people shocked about quarterback Justin Herbert? I had him as the best quarterback coming out of the 2020 NFL draft.

Las Vegas Raiders…C+

The Raiders have had some good wins over the Chiefs and Saints, but they lost to the Patriots. They are too inconsistent for my liking and their defense is ranked 31st, giving up 32.8 points per game.

Denver Broncos…C-

The jury is still out on head coach Vic Fangio and quarterback Drew Lock. This team has not done anything spectacular this season. The are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Chiefs, 43-16. We will know more about this division this weekend when the Chargers play the Broncos.
