The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills had playoff aspirations coming into the 2016 NFL Season. One of these teams will be 0-2 after Thursday night’s game. That does not bode well for making the post-season. Since 1990, only about 16% of teams qualify for the playoffs after starting out 0-2. The Jets were beaten by the Cincinnati Bengals 22-21 and the Bills were outscored by the Ravens 13-7.
The Jets got exploited against the Bengals, their defense had 7 sacks but A.J. Green had 12 catches for 180 yards and 1 touchdown. Andy Dalton threw for 366 yards. The Jets secondary is no longer elite. Darrelle Revis has not only lost one step, he has lost about 2 and a half. He just doesn’t have the legs to cover top wideouts anymore. On offense, the Jets looked good at times. RB, Matt Forte had 22 carries for 96 yards. 2nd year WR, Quincy Enunwa had 7 catches.
The Buffalo Bills had 11 first downs, 160 yards of total offense and scored 7 points. Rex Ryan had 4 months to prepare for the Ravens defense and his team scored 7 points. How many the Bills score with only three days to prepare? On the positive side, they only had 8 penalties.
Usually, when a team travels to play on only three days’ rest, it is negative. But, after the way the Jets lost, I think they want to get on the field as soon as possible. Buffalo beat New York twice last season and kept them out of the playoffs. In week 16, Ryan Fitzpatrick was 16-37 and had 3 INTs. This is a revenge game for “Gang Green” they will be focused and I expect this to be one of their best performances all season long. WR, Sammy Watkins sat out Monday’s practice with discomfort in his surgically repaired foot. He is questionable but either way, he won’t be 100%.
Todd Bowles lost twice last year to the man he replaced. I would be very shocked if he loses a third time to Rex Ryan. Bowles is a much better coach. The Jets should put up points and the Bills will struggle to score in Ryan’s “sophomoric- like” offense.
Take the Jets 24-16.
