It’s now or never for Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals were seemingly poised to part ways with head coach Marvin Lewis near the end of last season.

As the season came to a close, reports surfaced that Lewis was already on his way out the door, team owner Mike Brown had not talked about an extension — which in these cases is typical — but it was hard to shake the feeling the relationship had run its course.

Then…Boom! The Bengals agreed to give him a two-year extension.

Reportedly Lewis had emptied his desk, put all of his belongings in boxes and had his bags all packed.

But it appears that the front office firmly believes that a turnaround is due and wasn’t ready to shake things up too much, just yet!

The hope in Cincinnati is that Lewis can pull off a turnaround against all odds and return the team to the playoffs.

“The only thing I’m trying to do is win the championship. That’s it. That’s what this is about. I’ve been there twice. I’ve been there on both ends of it…”, Marvin Lewis.

But the reality is that he has a career record of 125-112 as the Bengals’ head coach and…

0-7 in the playoffs!

They recently held a scrimmage at Paul Brown Stadium and drew fewer than 5,000 fans. Cincinnati has the least interesting storylines in its division:

  • Pittsburgh trying to dethrone New England in the AFC.
  • A rookie quarterback creating a QB battle in Baltimore.
  • And HBO’s Hard Knock cameras are all over the Cleveland Browns.

“It just feels like time is ticking,” A.J. Green – Cincinnati Bengals WR, “We’ve been here eight years now so it would be good to get something going right now. We’re just trying to work in the now.”

I Hear you, A.J.!

The truth is—winning the last two games of last season is the only reason Marvin Lewis is still with the Cincinnati Bengals.
