Before we break down the AFC Wild Card Playoffs, some parting shots on the AFC:

•John Elway should be on the hot-seat. He brought in Paxton Lynch and Case Keenum to play quarterback. He hired and fired, head coach Vance Joseph and for the first time since 1974-75,
The Denver Broncos have had back-to-back losing seasons.

•This notion that defense wins championships is straight out of the 1980’s. The Top 3 scoring teams in the NFL are the Chiefs, Patriots, and Colts. All AFC teams.

•When will the Jets hire an offensive coach? I would love to see them hire the Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

•The Steeler had 2 wide receivers who had over 1000 yards receiving. Ben Roethlisberger led the league in passing yards, they had a very good RB in James Connor and tied for the most
sacks in the NFL. How did they not make the playoffs? Antonio Browns has played his last game in Pittsburgh.

Saturday, Jan 5th, 4:35 PM. Indianapolis Colts (10-6) at Houston Texans (11-5). Texans are favored by 1.5 points.

The Colts started the season 1-5, they have now won 9 out of their last 10 games. I have no idea how Andrew Luck didn’t get picked for the pro-bowl. He had 4,593 passing yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Over the past 8 games, Luck has been the best quarterback in the NFL. RB, Marlon Mack is now the featured back. He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry. T.Y Hilton and Eric Ebron have 142 catches and 19 combined touchdowns.

Defensively, the Colts have gotten better as the season went along. They were ranked 10th in points per game and 8th against the run. The Colts don’t put a lot of pressure on opposing QB’s, they only had 38 sacks in 16 games. Darius Leonard is the best linebacker, no one outside of Indianapolis knows about. He had 163 total tackles and 16 of them were for a loss.

The Houston Texans started the season 0-3 before they won 9 in a row. Deshaun Watson threw for over 4.000 yards and 26 touchdowns. He can beat you with his feet or his arm. RB, Lamar Miller didn’t rush for 1000 yards but that is because the Texans have the worst offensive line in the playoffs. WR, DeAndre Hopkins may be the best in the NFL. He had 115 catches, 1572 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Texans are led by J.J Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. The two compared for 25 sacks. Houston’s defense was ranked 3rd against the run and gave up only 19.8 points per game. That was 4th in the NFL.

Prediction:

Watson should make plays and keep drives alive for the Texans. They should be able to put up some points against the Colts but it won’t be enough. The Colts have won 9 out of 10 games for a reason, They are very good. Not only do the Colts win the game, but, they are on the brink of a new dynasty in the AFC. Frank Reich has this team clicking on all cylinders.

Colts 27 Texans 20.
