Summer basketball action begins this Friday as the Nike Pro-City Jabbo Kenner League tips off. The Kenner League includes regular season and playoff games between collegiate and professional players, featuring members of the Georgetown Men’s team. Regular season games are every weekend until the end of the month. The playoff format will have teams facing off August 1st and 2nd, with the Championship on the 8th.
Admission to all games are free and will be held at McDonough Arena on the Georgetown University campus. The school website released details and roster information for current Hoyas.
This will be a great opportunity to get a sneak peak of what the Hoyas have in store for this season.
A Wash Associates – Senior D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and sophomore Paul White. DSR is back. Smith-Rivera will be back in action for his senior season and ready to lead the Hoyas to another successful year and tournament appearance. The Indiana native can run the offense and score from anywhere on the court.
DCX – Junior Reggie Cameron and senior Bradley Hayes. Both Cameron and Hayes will be looking to find a way in the rotation. Hayes had an encouraging performance against Eastern Washington in the NCAA Tournament.
Clyde’s – Sophomores L.J. Peak and Isaac Copeland. Peak is fresh off of his Gold Medal winning trip as part of the Team USA U19 squad. He has a jump start on his teammates after already facing summer competition. Copeland played big during the second half of last year. All eyes will be on the sophomore as he is looking to take the same jump as Otto Porter did a few seasons ago.
Higher Level – Sophomores Tre Campbell and Trey Mourning. Tre Campbell could be the key to a lot of success this year. The sophomore showed poise when used last season and did not seem to shy away from the moment. Having him handle the ball and knock down open shots will be needed.
Ohhs and Ahhs – Sophomore Akoy Agau. The transfer from Louisville will be ready to play after the first semester and should be able to contribute to the front court.
The Tombs – Freshmen Jessie Govan and Kaleb Johnson. Big man Govan will draw a lot of attention from the crowd and opponents on the court. Many believe that he will log quality minutes and could be a day one starter.
Hoop Magic All Stars – Freshman Marcus Derrickson and Junior Riyan Williams. Derrickson is another freshman that could help early. Williams, son of Hoya legend Reggie Williams, will continue to work hard in case his number is called.
Other roster details, as well as professional participants should be available soon. Austin Freeman, Chris Wright, Greg Monroe and Jeff Green have been on rosters in recent years as professionals.
I will have a full preview of the Hoyas closer to the start of the season, but for now we can enjoy free summer hoops on the Hilltop.
