The #9 Texas Longhorns will host the #6 LSU Tigers in College Football’s game of the Week.
Saturday night, 7:30 PM.
LSU is a -6.5 point favorite.
Even though we are in week 2 of the college football season, this game has huge implications for the National Championship.
The Longhorns opened the season with a 45-14 victory over Louisiana Tech. Texas led 38-0 after three quarters. Texas quarterback, Sam Ehlinger was 23-38 for 276 yards and had 4 touchdown passes. Wide receiver, Brennan Eagles, had two receiving touchdowns. This is a Texas offense that is growing before our eyes. This offense has to carry this team for the first half of the season. The Longhorns lost 9 starters on defense and they will make mistakes based on their inexperience.
The Tigers led 42-3 at halftime against Georgia Southern in their home opener. They went on to win the game 55-3. Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 278 yards and 5 touchdowns. LSU’s defense gave up 98 total yards on offense. This defense is fast, aggressive and can dominant a game from start to finish. The Tigers could develop into one of the best defenses in the country before the season is over.
Oh paper LSU should dominate this game from start to finish. But, the Tigers have three things working against them.
1) Texas home crowd should be all fired up and help the Longhorns.
2) Tom Herman is a much better coach than Ed Orgeron. Herman was 22-4 with Houston and 40-14 at Texas. Orgeron has a career record of 42-36.
3) Sam Ehlinger is a better version of Tim Tebow. Ehlinger can throw, run and make plays when his protection breaks down. He is a winner and I expect him to play the best game of his career.
In college football, coaching and quarterback play, makes all the difference in the world.
Take Texas in an upset… 23-20.
