For the 1st time since 1979, Both the Eastern and Western Conference will play a game 7. The last time this happened the then-Washington Bullets hosted the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns hosted the Seattle SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder).
The Cleveland Cavaliers will travel to Boston to take on the Celtics Sunday night in a winner take all Game 7.
The NBA has had 130 Game 7’s in playoff history. The home team is 104-26 (80%) in those games. The 2018 NBA playoffs has had two Game 7’s and the home team has won both.
Eastern Conference First Round: Cleveland 105, Indiana 101.
Eastern Conference First Round: Boston 112.Milwaukee 96.
To say the Celtics have been dominant at home, this playoff series, is an understatement. They are 11-0 at TD Garden. Their young players have thrived in front of the Boston crowd. In three games, The Celtics have outscored the Cavs.
This team may be young, but they play like seasoned veterans when they are in front of their raucous crowd.
The Cavaliers have been a one man show. In 17 games, LeBron James is averaging 33.9 points, 8.8 assists and 8.9 rebounds. Their 2nd leading scorer has been Kevin Love who was averaging 13.9 points per game. LeBron is scoring 20 more points per game than the Cavs number 2 option. Unfortunately for Cleveland, Love was placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol, and the All-Star forward will miss Sunday’s series finale.
LeBron James will score over 35 points in Game 7. In elimination games he is averaging 33.5 points per game for his career. With Love being out of the lineup, where will the Cavs get scoring from? JR Smith has been absolutely atrocious at Boston. In 79 minutes he has scored 6 total points. He is stealing money from the Cavs ownership.
Brad Stevens is an elite coach. General Manager, Danny Ainge, brought the former college coach in to win big games like this. Everything is telling me that the Celtics will win this best of 7 series, but I have learned long ago… Never bet against Tom Brady when it comes to winning the AFC and never bet against LeBron James when it comes to winning the Eastern Conference Finals. I have to believe that the Cavs role players will score enough points to beat an inexperienced Celtics team in Game 7.
