Carolina Panthers @ Pittsburgh Steelers: Thursday Night Preview and Prediction

The (6-2) Carolina Panthers will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the (5-2-1) Steelers.

Carolina has won three in a row and Pittsburgh has won 4 in a row. This should be a classic out of conference battle.

Carolina:

The Panthers want to run the ball early and often. They average 143 yards per game on the ground. That is 2nd in the NFL.  Cam Newton has had a quiet, yet very effective, 2018 season. He has thrown for 1,893 yards, 19 total touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He has also rushed for 342 yards. RB, Christian McCaffrey is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and has 49 receptions on the season. Devin Funches continues to be consistently inconsistent. There are quarters and games where he looks like a legitimate number one wide receiver. He also has games where you won’t even know he is on the field. In 8 games, he only has 36 receptions.

The Panthers aren’t the dominant defensive team that they have been in the past. They are ranked 12th, giving up 22.5 points per game.

Pittsburgh:

Running back James Conner has done a great job filling in for Le’Veon Bell. Conner is averaging 4.68 yards per rush, has 9 running touchdowns and has caught 38 passes. Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for over 2,500 yards 16 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Antonio Brown and Juju Smith -Schuster have 104 receptions, and 11 touchdowns combined.

The Steelers defense are ranked 6th against the run and have only let up 17, 21, 18 and 16 points over their last 4 contests.

Roethlisberger is 15-3 in prime-time games since 2014.

Take the Steelers 27-23.
