Just because you can, should you?

There is a lot of rumblings and public outcries over what a female Warriors fan said to LeBron James after his Cavaliers beat her Warriors. (Warning: Some graphic language):

Fans like this young lady have some sort of entitlement that allows them to berate and verbally abuse any professional athlete they so choose.

But it does not just happen between fan and athlete, it can also happen between team and city.

The City of Glendale and the Phoenix Coyotes are in continued disputes over a new stadium. Correction, since the City of Glendale blatantly abused the terms of the contract made with the Phoenix Coyotes, the disputes have become legal talks as the Coyotes are now looking to seek legal ramifications. 200-million-dollars worth of ramifications and the fans are outraged as this young lady clearly says to City Council and Mayor Weiers:

It all comes back to the question in the title of this article, “Just because you can, should you?”

Just because Mayor Weiers has the power should he go against the original agreement he and the City of Glendale reached with the Phoenix Coyotes? Just because fans pay hundreds of dollars, sometimes thousands at one time to watch an NBA Finals game or any major sporting event, should fans be allowed to throw racial slurs at opposing players who have had great performances?

We may live in what is called “the entitlement era” but there are things much bigger than just being entitled to something. There are things like “integrity” and “honesty” and “honoring your word” and “respect.” When your feelings for entitlement cross into THESE traits that are at the very foundation of life, the line has been crossed.

So to that Warriors fan and the many others who may have or already have done this, it was wrong. To the City of Glendale and Mayor Weiers, as it is NOT surprising that this was to going to happen because of other incidents that have made Arizona news, the mayoral office and the council has lost all integrity with its constituents and with outside eyes such as mine.

So, in conclusion, just because you are in some sort of position. Or you have such a strong sense of entitlement, just because you can … should you? Marinate on that for a bit.
