Come one, come all! Georgia Southern Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein is issuing a challenge to any Power Five who is willing to do a home-and-home series with the Eagles. Okay, not necessarily a challenge. However, Kleinlein is more than willing to host a P5 school at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.

The conversation started when Scott Ernst of The Ernst Report sent out a tweet asking Group of Five Athletic Directors if they we’re struggling to schedule home-and-home series with P5 schools:

Kleinlein later made a slight change to his earlier statement concerning home-and-home scheduling:

Nothing wrong with either of Kleinlein’s statements. Georgia Southern is coming off their first season in the FBS with a 9-3 overall record, and as Sun Belt Conference champions. Even as a smaller school, you always want to play better competition to improve yourself. Playing against tougher competition gives any team an idea on how they need to practice and helps them learn from mistakes. All the Eagles can do now is continue winning and hope a P5 school will schedule a home-and home with them in the future.

It does beg the question: “Why doesn’t P5 Athletic Directors want to schedule home-and-home series with G5 schools?”

Maybe it’s a funding issue. Maybe it’s the gap of competition between the P5 schools and the G5 schools. Maybe it’s the strength of scheduling. I wish I knew the answer.

Maybe G5 schools should start calling Southeastern Conference member Mississippi State for potential home-and-home series. So far the Bulldogs have home-and-home’s scheduled against Southern Miss (2014 home, 2015 away), South Alabama (2014 away, 2016 home), Louisiana Tech (2015 home, 2016 away), and Massachusetts (2016 away, 2017 home).

In conclusion, I hope to one day see Georgia, Florida State, or South Carolina come down to Paulson Stadium to play against the Eagles. But for now, I’ll settle with home-and-home series against Western Michigan, Massachusetts, and Kent State.
