2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

Bruce Arians took over the sidelines for the Tampa Bay Buccaneer last season. Tampa finished the season with a 7-9 record. Gone is the 2015, No. 1 draft pick, Jameis Winston. Last season, Winston threw 30 interceptions and fumbled the ball 12 times. He has been a human turnover machine. In 5 years, Winston has 88 interceptions, 50 fumbles and 121 touchdown passes. The time to move in a different direction at quarterback was way overdue and the Bucs made a huge splash this off-season.

Tom Brady and the Bucs agreed to a two-year, $50 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Brady brings 9 Super Bowl Appearances and 6 championship rings to Tampa. This is a team that has a plethora of talent on offense. The Bucs, with Winston, were No.1 in the NFL in passing yards per game, (302.8).

  • Chris Godwin had 86 catches, 9 touchdown receptions and averaged 15.5 yards per catch.
  • Mike Evans had 68 catches, 8 touchdown receptions and averaged 17.3 yards per catch.
  • Tampa Bay added Rob Gronkowski from New England. Gronk has 79 career touchdowns, 521 receptions and is one of the best blocking Tight Ends in the NFL.

Tampa drafted Tristan Wirfs, OL out of Iowa. He is 6’5. 322 lbs. He should start for the Bucs for the next 7-10 years. They need to establish a number 1 running back to complement their passing game.

Defensively, Tampa struggled during the first half of the season. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles got better as the season went along. The Bucs finished the season ranked #1 against the rush. They only gave up, 73.8 yards per game. Shaquil Barrett, LB, had 19.5 sacks on the season. Linebackers and Lavonte David and Devin White combined for 214 tackles.

The Bucs are going to be extremely exciting to watch on both side of the ball. I expect Brady to throw for over 3,500 yards and have at least 30 touchdown passes. Their defense will be better as well.

Is Brady and an improved defense worth 4 more wins. Absolutely.

Tampa Bay goes 11-5.
