#1 Alabama vs. #2 Clemson: National Championship Preview

The (14-0) Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the (14-0) Clemson Tigers. This is the 4th straight year that these two college football powerhouses will meet in the College Football Playoffs.

2015-16: National Championship Game, Alabama 45… Clemson 40.
2016-17: National Championship Game, Clemson 35… Alabama 31.
2017-18: Semi-Final Playoff Game, Alabama 24… Clemson 6.

Alabama and Clemson have a combined 106-4 record over the past 4 years when not playing each other.

The Clemson Tigers:

Clemson dominated Notre Dame (33-3) to advance to the Finals and Alabama beat a feisty Oklahoma team 45-34.
Let’s be perfectly clear, neither The Fighting Irish or The Sooners were a top 4 team. College Football needs to expand their playoff format to at least 8 games.

Notre Dame went into their game against Clemson hell bent on stopping the run and Travis Etienne. That did not work, The sophomore running back had 14 carries for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence was 27 for 39, passed for 329 yards and 3 touchdowns. Freshman Justyn Ross had 6 catches for 148 yards and 2 touchdown catches. Clemson had 538 total yards on offense.

Defensively, The Tigers couldn’t have played better. They only let up 3 points against the Fighting Irish and gave up 248 total yards.

Alabama Crimson Tide:

Alabama started their 2018 college football playoff game by outscoring Oklahoma 28-0 in the first quarter. The Tide rolled against the Sooners 45-34. Senior Damien Harris rushed for two touchdowns, Tua Tagovailoa passed for 318 yards and had 4 touchdown passes. Deveon Smith had 104 yards receiving and had 1 touchdown pass. The Tide rushed for 200 yards and dominated the game from start to finish. There was never a doubt after the first few minutes that Alabama would be going to their fourth straight National Championship Game.

Preview and Prediction:

Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney are two of the best college football coaches of all-time.
Both teams will be prepared, and will have a trick play or two up their sleeve for the National Championship. In my pre-season article I had Clemson beating Alabama in the Finals.
The Tigers are a great team but this is the best team Saban has ever had. What broadcaster, in the right mind, would bet against Saban in the biggest game of the year.

Take the Crimson Tide

Roll Tide 31 Clemson 27
