Warriors vs Trail Blazers Preview and Prediction

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The #1 seeded Golden State Warriors will take on the #8 seeded Portland Trail Blazers in a best of 7 series. Both teams are hoping that injuries won’t play a part over the next two weeks. Kevin Durant is easing his way back into play shape and Jusuf Nurkic is still a question mark. Both players are an integral part of their teams offense. This should be a high flying, offensive series with the winning team scoring over 110 points per game.

Preview:

If the Warriors were a movie they would be…The Fast and the Furious. They just keep coming at you and never let up“The Dubs” are the 1st team in NBA history to have 3 straight seasons with over 65 wins. When it comes to their offense I will quote sportscaster Dan Patrick, “You can’t stop them, you can only hope to contain them.” KD, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson average 73 points per game. Draymond Green is averaging 7.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. This is a team that relies heavily on their 4 starters. Andre Iguodala averages 7.6 points per game off the bench and unproven Ian Clark averaged 6.9 points during the year. Curry had an MVP- like season and no one is talking about him because or Russell Westbrook and James Harden. Look for Curry to make a statement in this series. Steve Kerr is a great coach and he’s only been on the bench for three years. His coaching should be a huge advantage in this series.

The Trail Blazers are led by their dynamic backcourt. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum averaged 50 points per game combined. Lillard can dominate any quarter, any game and any series when he is hot. He scored 59 points last weekend against a very good Utah Jazz team. The question for Portland is Nurkic. Since acquiring him in a trade the Trailblazers have gone 14-6. He can score, rebound and pass the ball. He is averaging 15 points 10 rebounds and 3 assists since he arrived in the Pacific Northwest from Denver. Nurkic became the first player to average 15 points and 10 rebounds in their first 20 games as a Trail Blazer since Mychal Thompson in 1978. If he can’t play in this series it will be a tremendous loss.

Prediction:

The entire NBA family is predicting the Warriors get to their 3rd straight NBA Finals and why not? They dominated another regular season and appear to be getting healthier. KD is coming off an injury and should use this series to get the “rust” off his game. The Trailblazers under achieved this season but they are a dangerous team that can score with any team in the NBA. They have nothing to lose and if Nurkic can play and contribute, they can win a game or two. If you are a Warriors fan…you want a sweep so you can rest your starters. Last season, the Warriors looked tired and worn down in the NBA Finals.

Take the Warriors here in 5 Games but Portland could possible win 2, if Nurkic is healthy.
