Raging Rondo…

By: Rob Botts

Did you see Rajon Rondo grab that rebound and go coast to coast and snap that ball out to a wide open shooter for three? Or how about the between the legs hesitation move and then the fake around the back pass that would be a pre-lude to the real wrap around pass to a teammate for an open dunk? You must have seen the way he took that charge just when the other team was gaining momentum…Or the look he gave an opponent when they would bring words to an elbow fight?

You don’t? Know recollection at all? Are you taking the 5th or you just can’t remember? Its’s ok. I get it. Nobody can really remember THAT Rajon Rondo. It was THAT version of Mr. Rondo that the Dallas Mavericks believed they were trading for to help them make a legit run at the NBA title this season or next perhaps..Ummmm…Not so much.

With the recent turn of events in big D, I am sure owner Mark Cuban is looking to dunk Rajon into the closest shark tank available…I think the sharks might object…

You know that guy(pick any sport on any level) that has game and just can’t stop letting you know about it? This guy is also the guy who has a couple screws loose and you never know when or why he might pop off? He is a guy to be respected and not messed with. He is a guy you’ve got to take head on because he prays on weakness. But if you try and really think though, those dudes would always have a bunch of other dudes who would keep him in check and always have their back. It’s like controlling the crazy cousin who you know will help you later on down the road so it is a good investment for the immediate future of everyone’s sanity to keep him on the straightened path. Mr. Rondo had that perfect situation in Boston for a number of years where KG, The Truth, Jesus Shuttlesworth and a Doc kept him standing upright and got the absolute best out of him. He no longer has those buddies around and unfortunately he has never grown up….Now back to that guy we all have known…Then there comes the day when he has a battered body, his buddies are all gone and all he is left with are his now empty, attitude filled words…

Am I saying that Rondo is done? No. Not done…Almost done. There are people who think he is playing possum because he just hates his current coach Rick Carlisle and place in the Dallas Mavericks universe. They think the injury he suffered a while back hasn’t permanently hampered him and he can return to being the overall pest and effective assist leader that a team desperately need around the league…And there is one team in particular that really, really wants to believe those statements about Rondo….Yes. Your Los Angeles Lakers….If they make that move, they will have not one but TWO aging stars who think they are 25 again with the game to match…

I publish a weekly comic strip entitled “Boston Bobby” that follows the daily trials and tribulations of this crazy Boston sports fan. I may be very level headed, but my cartoon alter ego is not. My favorite teams are, of course, the Pats, Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox and the Revs…Yes, I follow soccer too—from afar. Let’s talk some sports!!!
