In my pre-season football article and show, I said, “If I was going to take one team and one quarterback over the next five years it would be the Philadelphia Eagles and Carson Wentz. The Eagles won the Super Bowl and Wentz should have won the MVP, despite being injured.
Most NBA experts are saying, “Trust the Process” and the Philadelphia 76ers are the team of the future. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have proven to be very exciting and talented. There is no doubt that Philly is a team on the rise. But, if I am taking one NBA team to make a playoff run this season and one team for the next five years, I am taking the Milwaukee Bucks, seven days a week and twice on Sunday’s.
Led by “The Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo, this team has a better core group of young players than the Golden State Warriors did when they won their first title with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes. The Bucks are the only team in the NBA who have 4 starters who can average 17 or more points per game and they can all create their own shots off the dribble.
Giannis: (23 years old) … averaging 27.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.
Khris Middelton: (26 years old) … averaging 20 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
Eric Bledsoe: (28 years old) … averaging 17.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Jabari Parker: (22 years old) Parker is coming off an injury. But last season in 51 games he averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. When healthy he is a very good offensive player.
In 2014-15 the Golden State Warriors won the NBA Championship.
Stephen Curry: Averaged 23.8 points per game.
Klay Thompson: Averaged 21.7 points per game.
Draymond Green: Averaged 11.7. Green has a career scoring average of 9.2 points per game.
Harrison Barnes: Averaged 10.1 points per game.
I am not saying that the Milwaukee Bucks have a better team than the Golden State Warriors did. What I am simply pointing out is, the Bucks “Core 4” are much better scorers. There is not one team in the NBA that has 4 players who can put up 17 points per night, other than Milwaukee.
The Big difference between these two teams is the 3 point shot. The Warriors have been one of the league’s best three-point shooting team for the past 5 years. Milwaukee is ranked 24th in the NBA in three-point shooting (35.3%).
Going into the post-season, the Bucks bench will have to “step up” and provide some scoring punch. Malcolm Brogdon has been injured but should be healthy come playoff time. The 25-year-old guard is averaging 13.3 points per game. Another question mark with this team is their head coach. The Bucks fired Jason Kidd and hired Joe Prunty. The Interim coach has a record of 11-8 since taking over. If the Bucks don’t play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1st two rounds of the playoffs, they have a shot of making it to the Eastern Conference Finals. If they have a poor playoff showing, look for Prunty to be fired and the Bucks to add a few veterans and 3 point shooters this off-season.
Over the next 5 years there will be a new sheriff in the Eastern Conference… The Milwaukee Bucks
