We all have those guilty pleasures in life. For some, it may be reality TV, for others, it may be binging on cookies late at night. My guilty pleasure is March Madness. I say it is a guilty pleasure because even though I pretty much know the outcome (Or teams that will get to the final four) I still watch. You see, the greatest sports lie every perpetrated on the American public is that during the NCAA Tournament, the little school or “Cinderella” has a chance to win a championship. In the History of the Tournament, there have been three #11 Seeds to make the Final Four

  • LSU (1986)
  • George Mason (2006)
  • VCU (2011)

None of the teams listed above made it to the National Championship game. So when you are filling out your bracket here is a helpful hint. Lower seeded teams can upset higher ranked teams. ( The Most popular upset since 2000 has been the #12 seed beating the #5 seed). But, as you get to the sweet 16, elite 8 and Final Four… pick the higher seeded teams that are ranked 1-6.

March Madness Preview Prediction:

East Region: Two seasons ago Duke won the National Championship, last year Villanova took home the title, they are both in the East. Duke is the #2 seed and Villanova is seeded #1. #8 Wisconsin and #5 Virginia are a matchup nightmare for any team. They can control the tempo and force any team to play their style.

Sleeper Pick:  If # 4 Florida gets hot they can go far in the tournament.

Elite 8… Duke beats Villanova …Duke Goes to The Final Four.

Mid-West Region: Kansas is the #1 Seed and Louisville is the #2 seed but there are several compelling stories in this region. The #3 seeded Oregon Ducks, are the best team in the country no one knows about. I would not be surprised if they make it to the Final Four. It has been a down year for Tom Izzo and Michigan State Spartans (19-14), but would anyone be surprised if they make a legitimate run over the next few weeks?

Sleeper Pick: Iowa State appears to be a team playing with confidence.

Elite 8… Oregon upsets Kansas… Oregon goes to the Final Four.

South Region: On the surface, many so-called experts feel that #1 North Carolina and #2 Kentucky are on a collision course to meet in the Final 8. # 4 Wichita State is always well coached and well prepared and #5 Cincinnati won 29 games this year.

Sleeper pick: Butler always does well in the Tournament.

Elite 8… #3UCLA upsets #1 North Carolina…UCLA goes to the Final Four.

West Region: Gonzaga is the #1 Seed and Arizona is #2 seed.  This is probably the deepest region with a ton of talented teams. #5 Notre Dame can beat any team in the country but will have to get past #12 Princeton. No one wants to play Princeton in the first round. Their style and tempo is impossible to prepare for. Every year I expect Bob Huggins and West Virginia to go far in the tournament but they never do. Will #8 Northwestern be happy to just be in their first ever NCAA Tournament or can they pull an upset? Head Coach Chris Collins has done a tremendous job and could be a coach on the move to a bigger and better program.

Sleeper Pick: #3 Florida State is a very good team from the ACC that has not gotten enough attention.

Elite 8… #Arizona beats Gonzaga…Arizona goes to The Final Four.

I have 3 PAC-12 Teams going to the Final Four

Arizona

UCLA

Oregon

With Duke the lone team from the ACC.
