In the Mid 1980’s the rock band, The Clash, had a single called,” Should I stay or should I go?” The lyrics are…
If I go, there will be trouble, and if I stay it will be double, so come on and let me know… Should I stay or should I go? This is how many general managers in the NBA feel about the trade deadline, they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t. But, I have taken the pressure off them. Below you will find several trade possibilities where every team involved wins.
DeMarcus Cousins to San Antonio: Let us be honest, The Kings can’t handle Cousins and his attitude. They should trade him before he leaves via free agency. There are several places that Cousins could land. I would Trade Cousins for LaMarcus Aldridge and Dewayne Dedmon. First of all, you are trading two men with Marcus in their first name and Two players that have De at the start of their name. The Spurs are getting the best center in the NBA and the Kings get an all-star Power Forward and a starting Center who has tremendous upside. Gregg Popovich is like Bill Belichick. Every player that plays for them believes in the system and thrives. With Cousins and Kawhi Leonard, you have the best 1-2 inside-out combo in the NBA.
Derrick Rose to the Minnesota Timberwolves to Ricky Rubio. Shooting guard, Zach LaVine was averaging 18.9 points per game before his season-ending injury. The Timberwolves need another scorer. Rubio is only averaging 8.9 points per game. MN needs another scorer. Rose fits that bill and played for Tom Thibodeau. It would be a perfect fit for both teams. The Knicks have to legitimate scorers in Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, what they don’t have is someone to run their offense. Rose is a scoring first PG. Rubio would lead the league in assists if he joined New York. This trade makes all the sense in the world for both teams.
DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay to the Knicks
Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah to Cleveland
Kevin Love and Iman Shumpert to Sacramento
Love just underwent surgery but he will be back in 5-6 weeks. With Melo in Cleveland, they will have the best BIG 3 in the NBA.(Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, and Anthony). Gay is out of the year as well but will be 15-19 point per game scorer next season with New York.
The Knicks get two starters and the Kings get two starters. Long-term this is a win, win, Win!
