Mixology With Fia

Maple is the New Pumpkin
There are literal signs everywhere, calling you to try maple latte this and maple cappuccino that. Maple syrup is no longer just a topping for your pancakes. The sweet goodness of maple is creeping up fast on your go-to pumpkin specials and just like your favorite coffee concoctions improve when it’s added, so do your cocktails.
Maple is great to use in small amounts and it can really add a depth and richness to beverages. It acts as a sweetener that rounds out a cocktail in a unique way. With cold weather upon us, it’s nice to have a new mixer for the heartier whiskies we like during Fall and Winter.

1. Add .5 oz maple syrup
2. Add .5 oz ginger liqueur
3. Add 1.5 oz rye whiskey
4. Add .5 oz simple syrup
5. Add .75 lemon juice
6. Combine all ingredients, add ice and shake
7. Strain in martini glass
8. Garnish with a lemon twist
Maple will not disappoint and since it has several antioxidants in it, you can tell yourself that you’re “being healthy” when you decide to booze it up in front of the fireplace on a snowy day. Until next month, keep the cocktails fresh and drink responsibly. You can always contact me with questions and comments at sofia@nutsandbolts.com or @sofresha on instagram.
