Jaguars @ Titans Thursday Night Preview/Prediction

If you look at my Twitter page  (Montetjwitter11) you will know exactly who I am voting for in the upcoming presidential election. But, many Americans are disenfranchised by the two candidates. If you search Facebook or Twitter you will see many posts saying, “Out of 325 million people in our country, this is the best we can do, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton? On Thursday night, the 3-4 Tennessee Titans host the 2-4 Jacksonville Jaguars. I feel the same way about the two head coaches that Americans feel about our next president… this is the best the NFL can do? Titans coach Mike Mularkey has a career record of 21-43. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley has a career record of 14-40. No matter what happens in this game neither coach deserves to be back on the sidelines next year.

Preview:

Both quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Blake Bortles have shown flashes of greatness but have also made costly mistakes.  Mariota is completing 61.5% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. RB DeMarco Murray is 3rd in the NFL with 633 yards. He has provided both power and speed averaging 4.6 yards per rushing attempt. TE Delanie Walker has only 24 receptions (which is down from last year’s pace of 94 catches) but TN has 4 players with over 20 catches. Mariota is spreading the ball all over the field. This is not a great defensive team but LB, Brian Orakpo has 7 sacks on the year. He is 2nd in sacks behind Denver’s Von Miller.

Bortles has 9 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on the year and for his career, he has 55 touchdowns and 44 interceptions. Bortles has a ton of talent but he continues to make bad decisions. He has not evolved and appears to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. The Jags have no running game to help their struggling quarterback. Chris Ivory averages 3.4 yards per carry and that is the best average on the team. 3rd year wide out, Marqise Lee out of USC leads the team with 29 receptions.

Prediction:

Ricky Bobby from the 2006 movie Talladega Nights said, “If You ain’t first you’re last”. This is the theme for the AFC South. If a team doesn’t win the division or finish first, they have no chance of making the playoffs. 8 to 9 wins will clinch this division. This is a crucial matchup and the team that loses will most likely be out of the playoffs and their coach will be looking for a job next year. Look for Mariota to rush for over 50 yards and Murray and Walker to run and catch for over 100 yards each. The Titans win despite terrible coaching.

Tennessee 27 Jaguars 17.
