About Jeffrey Newholm
Hey there! I’m Jeff Newholm and depending on your point of view I’m blessed or cursed that my two favorite sports are outside the limelight. Being a UW-Whitewater grad (winter 2013) my first love was d3 college football, but over the last few years I have picked up a huge interest in woman’s basketball (Uconn being my favorite team as their 90 game winning streak helped show me how good a team can get in the woman’s game). I like all the sports everyone else likes (NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA basketball and football) but those two sports are where I really have a passion.

Lonzo Ball: Showtime Returns?

January 18, 2018 0

By: Jeffrey Newholm Regular theatergoers quickly bore of all the ads and trailers preceding the film. When the show starts, however, the audience watches in rapt attention. For the “showtime” Lakers, the team had the […]

Hoop Heroes: Values in Basketball

“Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet? You know, they boys in the newsroom got a running bet. Get the Widow on the set! We need dirty laundry”. As Don Henley’s song […]

NBA Regular Season: Just a Trial Heat?

January 7, 2018 0

Consumers are too often hoodwinked by retailers with the markdown game. That is, the retailer sets an artificially high price floor, then “discounts” it by a substantial margin. Last week, Cavs fans were bamboozled by […]

Kevin Durant: What’s The Issue?

January 1, 2018 0

“‘What reason have you to be merry? You’re poor enough.’ ‘Come, then,’ returned the nephew gaily. ‘What right have you to be dismal? What reason have you to be morose? You’re rich enough.’” It, indeed, […]

Best Of 2017: Gonzaga

December 28, 2017 0

By: Jeffrey Newholm Best Of 2017. I would say Gonzaga finally breaking through to the Final Four, for two reasons. First, the Zags proved yet again that the NCAA tournament is idyllically egalitarian; every team […]

Giannis: The Greek Freak Soars

December 25, 2017 0

In 1996, Game Freak introduced Pokemon, a game where the player catches mystical Pocket Monsters-freaks of their own. Millions of children have had hours of fun catching Pokemon. Alas, these freaks are not real. As […]

D3: The Wheel Stops For No Man

December 11, 2017 0

By: Jeffrey Newholm “Life was such a wheel that no man could stand upon it for long. And it always, at the end, came round to the same place again”. Readers can perhaps be excused […]

Derrick Rose: Missing the Moving Target

December 7, 2017 0

Perhaps the most curious tendency of Man is to claim to want something very badly, only to quickly ask for more shortly after getting it. The Indians won 22 games in a row this year, […]

Is Golden State Bad For The Game?

November 27, 2017 0

Oftentimes it’s heard that someone likes something so much that “it never gets old”. But I’ve always been dubious about such claims. Everybody has favorite songs, and yet all complain about radio stations with extremely […]
